So it’s that time. You have been thinking about it for a while, even chatting about to your friends and family…………it’s time to make a move, onwards and upwards, they say!
So you start looking at job boards for that elusive new career opportunity……….click, read, dismiss, click read, dismiss, click, read, dismiss…………
…………hang on a minute have you spent any time putting your CV together?
That’s easy, it’s the jobs that I’ve done, with the dates on it…………isn’t it??
In our expert opinion, we would have to say NO, there is a lot more to it than this and we can certainly help you!
Your CV needs to be the best it can be, it seriously needs to impress whomever is going to read it. You need to sell yourself and you need to sell yourself in the form of letters, words, sentences and paragraphs and all in black & white!!
That is no simple task. That is very hard to do and you need to make your CV standout!!
How do you make your CV stand out?
Well lets look at it a completely different way. Let’s imagine you are looking out into a crowd of people, looking for someone you know, a friend or a loved one maybe, but you can’t see them. This is because everyone in the crowd is dressed the same, exactly the same……..they are all wearing black suits, white shirts/blouses and black ties……and they are all doing the same things……..waving their arms, shouting and screaming the same things!
So how easy is it to spot that person you know? Not that simple is it?
And to be honest a lot of CV’s read the same, look the same and sound the same!
Let’s now imagine the same situation, that you are looking out into the crowd, but the person that you are looking for is wearing the loudest and most vivid colours possible, a bright orange suit with bright yellow shirt/blouse and a lime green tie/scarf……..can you see them clearly now, do they standout?
That’s how your CV needs to be!!
It needs to have a bold, informative and punchy profile and you must list your key achievements as this this is what will set you apart from the sea of black suits. You cannot just list your core duties, I mean after all this is just a job description and you will just be a black suit??
\The words that you put together to form your CV is your one chance to grab the attention of the person who is going to read it and this could be anyone from HR through to the Director or Business Owner.
Make that first impression, make sure your CV is the one that stands out, make sure you are the one that is contacted for that new career that you want!!
Before you start looking for a new job. Before you talk to your friends or family, take a bit of time. Think about the work that you do now, what you’ve done previously, what accomplishments/achievements & success you have had and where you want to go next in your career journey.
